Le thème de la pièce
est la convocation de l’Église de la Cité
par les femmes
qui tentent
de prendre le contrôle de l’administration de la cité
en écartant les hommes et en imposant
un programme social de gouvernance
qui inclut également la propriété collective des biens
mais parce qu’il est question
de propriété collective des femmes,
le plan n’est pas mis en œuvre
leur chef est la seule Praxagora
elles s’entraînent toutes ensemble et se déguisent
afin de ressembler à des hommes!
l’étonnante similitude de l’idée centrale
avec La République de Platon
écrite vingt ans plus tard
est
un problème largement débattu…

θέμα του έργου
είναι η σύγκληση της εκκλησίας του Δήμου
από τις γυναίκες
οι οποίες προσπαθούν
να αναλάβουν τη διοίκηση της πόλης
παραμερίζοντας τους άντρες και επιβάλλοντας
ένα κοινωνικό πρόγραμμα διακυβέρνησης
που περιλαμβάνει και την κοινή κτήση των αγαθών
επειδή όμως γίνεται λόγος
και για κοινοκτημοσύνη των γυναικών
το σχέδιο δεν υλοποιείται
αρχηγός τους η μοναδική Πραξαγόρα
όλες μαζί ασκούνται και μεταμφιέζονται
ώστε να μοιάζουν με άντρες!
η καταπληκτική ομοιότητα της κεντρικής ιδέας
με την Πολιτεία του Πλάτωνα
που γράφτηκε είκοσι χρόνια αργότερα
αποτελεί
ένα πολυσυζητημένο πρόβλημα…

which also includes the common ownership of goods
but because there is talk
of women’s common ownership
the plan is not implemented
their leader is the only Praxagora
they all practice together and disguise themselves
so that they look like men!
the amazing similarity of the central idea
with Plato’s Republic
which was written twenty years later
is
a much-discussed problem…
